Meet Our Team
Landscaper Cardie Carnes’ grandparents worked at Western Stoneware in Monmouth, Illinois, so he was always aware of the locally made pottery. His passion for stoneware truly began later in life, after his kids were in college and he found more time for himself. While doing a landscape project at the Stoneware Museum, Ray and Cindy Brinkmann invited him inside for a short tour—and what he saw changed everything. Surrounded by hundreds of pieces of stoneware, Cardie’s interest turned into a full-fledged pursuit. Since then, he has traveled across more than fifteen states, amassing a collection of several hundred pieces. What began as curiosity about his grandparents’ work has become a lifelong passion, fueled by the thrill of the hunt, the beauty of the craft, and the friendships he’s formed along the way. Today, Cardie is proud to serve as a board member of the Stoneware Museum, helping to preserve and share the legacy that first inspired him.

Burley has been collecting stoneware since childhood and his passion Is focused on pieces from his home state of Missouri as well as advertising stoneware, & animals. Burley is president of the Pottery Museum of Monmouth in Illinois, board member & auction manager for Mid America Stoneware Pottery Club. He is also a member of COIPS & Red Wing Collectors Society.

Joe has been collecting for 20 years. He likes rare Midwest salt glazed pieces as well as ALL types of stoneware animals, especially Bird decorated pieces. He is the caretaker of some beautiful stoneware. Joe is proud to bring you Heartland Stoneware.

Ray Brinkmann and his wife, Cindy started collecting stoneware ten years ago when they bought a Western Stoneware jug. Fast forward to 2019 when they formed the Stoneware Museum of Monmouth. At the beginning they had 800 items, and have grown the museum to 1400 items today. Ray enjoys the “big” crocks-20 to 60 gallon sizes and his passion for pottery is evident when he shares stories of the travels and adventures finding such treasures!

General Auction Information
How does the auction work?
Each scheduled auction will be listed on the Heartland Stoneware app. Any registered bidder will be able to login and look at any scheduled auction with items listed in that auction. The items will have an ending day and time. Any items receiving bids during the last two minutes of the scheduled end time will automatically be extended by two additional minutes. This is known at overtime. Any bidder having the leading bid when an items clock runs to zero will be the winning bidder. The exception to this will be on any item listed with a reserve. Reserve auction items will be clearly marked. Any reserve items where the minimum bid has not been met will be considered a NO SALE. A Heartland Stoneware team member will contact and negotiate with the high bidder and seller in an attempt to get an item to a sold status. There are no guarantees this negotiation will result in a sale.

Do items have a reserve price?
Most items in each auction will not have a reserve price. Occasionally an item will have a reserve price. This will be disclosed in that items listing. Why do you ask for my credit card to bid?
Adding a payment method is an important step to complete your registration and helps prevent fraudulent activity.
- For purchases under $300 (bid amount + buyer’s premium): you’ll receive a single invoice and will be billed when you finalize your invoice with the seller, which includes confirming any shipping costs or pickup arrangements.
- For purchases over $300: you’ll receive two invoices — one for $300, which is automatically billed at auction completion or when you Buy It Now, and a second invoice for the remaining balance. The remaining balance can be paid using your preferred payment method with the seller during finalization.
Please note that some payment methods, such as credit cards, may incur additional processing fees.
How do I cancel my bid?
Bidding on an items is a binding contract, and its important to remember that you CANNOT cancel a bid once a bid has been placed.
What is overtime bidding?
Overtime bidding is our way of preventing sniping to provide a fair bidding experience for all auction participants. It adds an extra two minutes to the auction ending time for any bids received in the last two minutes of the auction for that item. This extension will go on until there is two full minutes of bidding inactivity at the auction’s end.
